We totally transformed this unfinished area into a vibrant space to be used by tenants as a cool gathering place to lounge, watch movies, bbq and dine. This design plan is functional as a public space and embraces the industrial look of the building.
Initially there was a concern by some about the salmon color selected by us for the iron screens, when the project was complete all gave thumbs up! The final touch was great lighting to enhance trees and screens.
This is a before picture of the main wall in this outdoor space. As you can see it didn’t have much going on. Originally the client wanted to have ivy grow on wall to cover the hardness of the block wall. We took it a big step further and presented the idea of transforming this wall into the backdrop of an iron art screen that our sr. designer Chris Obeji designed and had made by a local iron welder.
In this side view you can see the 3-dimensional aspect of the iron screen that is enhanced by lighting we had installed between the screen and block wall. At night, the light is defused and bounces off the panels in a playful way.
We also created two seating areas within the space to encourage smaller groups to lounge or catch up with each other in a more intimate way.

Drought tolerant trees were planted before work started so they could grow and diffuse the views to surrounding buildings.
