Exterior Courtyard Story

Uncommon Common Area

Let's bring in some California styling

Responding to the clients' desire for a sustainable, low-maintenance landscape, Romero + Obeji were poised to infuse the space with their signature flair, while ensuring it aligns seamlessly with the architectural ethos of the building.

Guided by the capable hands of project managers Hector and Chris, the team is embarked on a journey to craft a courtyard that not only serves as a communal oasis but also reflects the modern sensibilities of its urban surroundings. Tasked with overcoming the challenge of irregularly shaped spaces, the designers are embraced the opportunity to tailor bespoke outdoor furniture solutions, ensuring every corner of the courtyard exudes functionality and style.

In a stroke of creative ingenuity, Chris Obeji conceptualized striking salmon-colored 3D iron wall screens, destined to cloak block walls and double as captivating public art installations. Among their multifaceted features, these screens discreetly conceal an outdoor movie screen, promising residents good times under the stars, immersed in cinematic delights.

Further enhancing the allure of the space, a newly introduced outdoor BBQ area and raised wood deck beckon residents to indulge in alfresco dining and convivial table games, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.

Harmonizing with the building's contemporary aesthetic, selected native trees, alongside drought-tolerant landscaping and charcoal-colored gravel, infuse the courtyard with a modern and natural ambiance.

In the evening, the courtyard undergoes a transformation as strategically placed up lights behind the art screens, cast random shadows setting an artful stage for evenings filled with laughter and relaxation.

Through their visionary approach and meticulous attention to detail, Romero + Obeji are poised to redefine outdoor living in this bustling urban enclave, elevating the multi-family living experience to new heights of sophistication and sustainability.
