Palm Springs Modern Story
From The Ground Up
designers conceptually sketched up this house on a note pad
Collaborating closely with a local architect, Hector Romero + Chris Obeji collaborated and oversaw every stage of the project's development, ensuring that their vision for this architectural marvel was executed with precision.

Constructed over a two-year period, this post and beam home is made of a steel frame, glass and sandblasted block. Terrazzo floors seamlessly flow throughout, extending onto walls in showers, creating a harmonious aesthetic.
Designed to embrace the desert sky, clear story windows with thoughtfully placed overhangs allow natural light to flood the interiors without overwhelming the space. The dramatic effect continues with expansive floor-to-ceiling interior and exterior doors, including the front entrance.
Custom-built hardwood and walnut cabinetry add a touch of sophistication to the interior spaces. The offset fireplace hood, a unique design by Hector and Chris in collaboration with a local metal artist, serves as a focal point, further enhancing the home's distinctive character.
Furnished with a blend of new and vintage pieces, sourced meticulously from vintage and antique shops across Southern California, the interior exudes a Boho-Modern-Coachella aesthetic. Recognized by the Palm Springs architectural committee, this 3900 sq. ft. residence stands as a significant contribution to the city's inventory of modern homes.
The seamless integration between indoor and outdoor living spaces is a defining feature of this hillside desert home. The expansive north and south sliding glass doors effortlessly open, extending an invitation for guests to bask in the beauty of the front and back yards—a quintessential aspect of Palm Springs living.

The landscape design predominantly features a variety of cactus species arranged in a minimalistic grid pattern near the home. As the landscape transitions toward the natural vegetation of the desert, plants are strategically spaced out to create a harmonious blend with the environment.

At the heart of the residence lies a central planter, offering 360-degree interior views of palm tree trunks that seemingly grow through the center of the home, further blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Trees specified: Palo Breas, palms, acacia, and citrus varieties, have been carefully planted to enhance the desert oasis ambiance, adding to the allure of this architectural masterpiece.
To maintain the natural aesthetic and ensure effective drainage on the property, gravel covers the driveways, strategically minimizing the appearance of concrete throughout the landscape. Situated in a ravine area, this design choice not only contributes to the overall harmony of the surroundings but also serves a practical purpose, facilitating proper water runoff and drainage.

Overall, it's clear that this residence is not just a home but a work of art that harmonizes with its desert environment while offering a luxurious yet inviting space for its inhabitants.
